The Universal-allied dance and urban music company All Around The World will launch a new pop music based TV station on the Sky network, it has been confirmed.

AATW, best known for representing artists like N-Dubz and owning various successful dance compilation franchises (and, as of late 2011, for running Universal’s compilations unit), already operates four urban and dance-themed channels on Sky, including the TV spin-off of compilations brand Clubland. The new pop-themed channel, to be called Planet Pop, will replace one of those, Massive R&B, which will have its content absorbed by the new network and AATW’s existing Channel AKA.

The new channel will be led by AATW TV COO Simon Sadler, who joined the company from rival music television operators Box TV (the Bauer/Channel 4 JV) last year. Of the new service, he told CMU: “We’re talking about Katy Perry, Taylor Swift and Will.i.am. Pop is by far the biggest genre, it’s an extremely vibrant area, and it’s still what people want from music TV. Planet Pop will be our big mainstream channel and it is an obvious place for us to head as we build our portfolio”.
