A new Radiohead album is a thing that exists
By Andy Malt | Published on Monday 9 May 2016
That Radiohead album is out then, so Brian Message was wrong about it coming out in June. Although it will be released on physical formats on 17 Jun, so he was also right. Everyone’s a winner.
‘A Moon Shaped Pool’ was released via XL Recordings on the band’s website, download services, and premium-only streaming services at 7pm last night. Streaming services that also require music to be released to freemium users didn’t get a look in beyond the existing single releases, but a Spotify spokesperson said “we look forward to making the rest of ‘A Moon Shaped Pool’ available on Spotify as soon as we can”. Everyone’s a winner.
The band also released a second video for a track from the album last week, for the second single ‘Daydreaming’. It’s directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, repaying Jonny Greenwood for all those movie soundtracks. Everyone’s a winner.
XL will also reissue the band’s full catalogue on vinyl on 20 May, thanks to the band’s recordings all now being under the one indie label roof. Everyone’s a winner. Except Warner, Universal and the memory of EMI. Hooray!
