7digital launches store for Firefox OS
By Chris Cooke | Published on Thursday 4 July 2013
7digital has launched a music store for Mozilla Firefox OS, the new smartphone operating system that has only just become commercially available, via Telefonica in Spain. Accessible via the Firefox Marketplace, the 7digital Music Store will offer mobile access to the digital firm’s downloads catalogue, recommendation tools and digital locker.
Confirming the new service, 7digital boss Ben Drury told CMU: “The potential of Firefox OS is huge. With more than 20 hardware and operator partners around the world, Firefox OS is filling the need for a fully adaptable, unconstrained mobile platform to deliver an innovative and customisable mobile web experience. We believe this offers us a significant market opportunity as a digital music provider”.
He continued: “The heart of our digital strategy lies in providing a platform agnostic music store that does not tie users to a single device or operating system; we have apps for Android, Blackberry, Windows Phone and iOS already available. Developing the Firefox OS application means we’re ideally placed to become the default digital music store for Firefox OS smartphones”.
