5 Seconds Of Summer’s Michael Clifford injured at Wembley Arena (again)

5 Seconds Of Summer's Michael Clifford

When 5 Seconds Of Summer performed at Wembley Arena earlier this year, band member Michael Clifford’s head was accidentally set on fire. The good news is that there wasn’t a repeat of this when they returned to the venue for the Radio 1 Teen Awards yesterday. Although he did fall off the stage. So maybe the universe is trying to tell Clifford to stay away from North London.

Last time the guitarist was injured when he walked too close to a pyro. This time he walked too close to Rita Ora. “I was looking at Rita Ora and I was like, ‘Hey’, and I fell”, he told Radio 1.

Though it wasn’t all Ora’s fault. Because, while Clifford probably should have known where the pyros were located in his own stage set-up last time, apparently on this occasion their performance for the awards was done without a soundcheck, so they didn’t have chance to survey the unusual stage set-up.

“There’s a big hole in the middle of the stage and Michael was unaware of the hole”, the band’s Ashton Irwin told BBC Newsbeat. “We hadn’t actually been on the stage, we hadn’t sound checked today. We just kind of went out there. The thing is with radio shows, the stages are always different. They always do some crazy stuff with the stage shape. They just never have a regular stage”.

So Rita Ora and Radio 1 are each 50% to blame, right? I’m sure that will be what the insurance claim says. Clifford wasn’t too badly injured though. He tweeted last night that he would be “on crutches for the next few days”.
